Ay Illuminate is a Dutch lighting manufacturing company started by Casper and Ay Lin Heine. Its chief designers are Ay Lin Heinen and Nelson Sepulveda. Nelson Sepulveda has been an enthusiastic designer ever since he started working for Ay Illuminate. He aims to create lightings that open up fresh ideas and interesting views in the field of design. Ay Lin was inspired by the craftsmanship of basket weavers in Indonesia. She started working and learning from them to create basket lines.

Together they create aesthetically beautiful, high-quality lighting products that are close to nature. In several countries of Asia and Africa, they work with skilled local artisans and create handmade products. They look for inspiration from the objects and different cultures around them. These lighting products celebrate the expert design and splendor of uniquely-made, traditional handicrafts. They focus on creating products that gracefully express – responsibility, nourishment, empowerment, magic, and artisanal pride.

Ay Illuminate Black Bird's Nest Suspension lamp resembles an inverted cup or a bird's nest made with sticks. Bamboo strips are woven together to form a lampshade that houses a light source. The light diffused by the lampshade is soft and gentle and has a naturally ambient feel. It casts intricate shadows onto the surrounding surface. The lamp is handcrafted by skilled artisans with naturally available materials around them. So each piece has a slightly different structural variation and is unique. The lamp is available in two sizes – small and medium. It has a simple yet stunningly exotic design. It is a contemporary and ecological lighting solution emphasizing the need to co-exist with nature.
